1930’s wedding
Due to the great depression in America women’s wedding
dresses became much less ornate and more practical. Hemlines were fairly short with wedding dresses
looking more like female dress suits than like wedding gowns as women felt
guilty spending too much money on their dress when money was scarce:
1940’s wedding dress
In the 1940’s the return to glamour could be seen in wedding
dresses with gorgeous empire cut gowns and women experimenting with silk and
lace to create a gown to remember. There are still gowns based on these types
of dresses being sold today but nothing can quite recreate the luxurious
elegant feel of these gowns which were normally made by themselves with their family.
The 1940's were difficult times as material was often requisitioned by the army but still women would somehow find a way to have the dress of their dreams.
So let us know do you have a special wedding dress story or some photos of relatives in theirs? We want to hear all about it so why not get in touch?
