1910's and 1920's Wedding Fashion

1910’s wedding

The 1910’s was an interesting era for fashion with the fuller skirt losing favour and hemlines slowly beginning to rise.
The silhouette became much softer and flowing with draping fabrics and turbans giving a nod to the new found “Orientalism” with glamour being a key word and a hint of the 1920’s flapper girl style slowly coming in towards the end:

Women also started to "bob" their hair however still keeping the feminine edge with thick curls:

1920's Weddings

The 1920’s was where women started being naughty – known as the roaring 20’s for a reason and with women having just been awarded the right to vote it was reflected in fashion, the above dress from coco chanel was revolutionary as it was lightweight and showed that women had legs!

Everyone knows about the 1920's flapper girls with their short skirts and bobbed hair. The look was characterised by the "no waste" dresses where dresses reached just below the knee, corsets were no longer worn and things were jazzed up with sparkly hats and colourful beads.

So what do you think of the 1910's and 1920's? Let us know, do you have any old family photos from this time? Why not show us them?
