Evolution of a Topper… Part 2

Yesterday we started showing you all how we make our Toppers and we got as far as this (check out the first steps here):

 So here we are giving you the next few steps so you can see how we made our very adorable frankenchild (who we’re still taking name suggestions for).

Step 5. Shaping the face

Having added detailing for the torso we start shaping the details of the face, this is used as a guide for when we start adding more in depth detailing.

 This is what we're left with having completed that stage.

Step 6. Adding Colour

Having completely filled in the details of the face as a guide we then added small pieces of polymer clay to the mouth and eyes.

Step 7. Adding in the arms

 We next start sculpting the arms before attaching them to the body.

 Which leaves us with this!

Final step! Add the hair and bake!

 We then proceed to add the hair and any other little details and then we finally have our very own Frankenbaby!

So let us know what did you think?

@Topperland

As always we look forward to hearing from you soon!

Love,

Topperland

P.S. We’re still looking at naming him so get in touch with your suggestions!

Evolution of a Topper

Topperland is always getting questions asked about how we make our Toppers so we thought what better way then to show you how we make a Topper in a series of posts.

We'll show you how we made this adorable guy!

Step 1. Shaping the Wire

First we shape the wire into the lower body position we desire

Step 2. Shaping  the Legs

Next we start shaping the polymer clay around the wire and building it up to be legs whilst referring to the desired image.

Step 3. Creating the Torso

Having shaped the legs we begin adding more clay as we go up the wire to create the torso.

Step 4.  Building the head

Using a ball of flesh coloured clay we begin creating the shape of the head

Before adding the desired colour over the top!

Well so far you know how we make the legs, torso and head and we'll be posting more up tomorrow, So
why not subscribe to our blog for more fun tutuorials, articles and much more!

Don’t Go to Bed Angry and Other Myths

I recently made a big decision with my partner to live together and ever since I've been inundated with all sorts of advice from well-meaning relatives and loved ones.

However the one piece of advice that stuck out for all of us in the Topperland office was this: “Don’t go to bed angry”. As much as this sounds like a great piece of advice it’s rarely possible when you’re having a screaming argument at 3am about who’s going to do the dishes that gets well out of hand (not that that’s ever happened or anything). Sometimes you just need a break from each other for a few hours before you say something you’ll regret.

So with this in mind the ladies in the Topperland office have come up with our thoughts on how not to kill each other when you’re living together. Of course these are easier said than done but personally I think this is pretty solid advice.

Don’t stop dating

Just because you’re living together as a couple doesn't necessarily mean that you’ll be spending time with each other as a couple. Between work, family and friends your other half can be the last person you spend time with. Make sure you have a date night at least once a month just to spend some time together.

Don’t stop making an effort

Just because you’ve been exposed to each other’s morning breath doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t make any effort at all. If one of you doesn’t make an effort anymore then the other won’t make an effort and then it just descends into arguments and feeling bad about yourself.

Give each other space

Just as you shouldn't stop dating you shouldn't crowd each other either. Everyone needs their space and you should be able to communicate openly and honestly with each other when you need some alone time.

If something’s bothering you talk about it

Communication in a relationship is hugely important and if you can’t talk openly and honestly to each other then it’s something you should really work on together. Whether something’s bothering you at the office or whether it’s your partner annoying the heck out of you, you should still be able to talk it out with each other.

Now there are loads more pieces of advice that we at Topperland could give but really it boils down to these four core pieces of advice.

Why not get in touch with us and let us know what advice you’ll be giving out or have you ever had some really bad advice?

@Topperland

We can’t wait to hear from you soon,

Love,

P.S. Why not invest in one of our wedding or couples Toppers which is guaranteed to remind you of the happiest day of your life!

Topperlands Favourite Costumes... For Dogs

Topperland recently posted this photo (be warned mental scarring may occur)

"Tell me I'm pretty?"
You guys went absolutely wild over this outfit so Topperland thought that in the spirit (gettit) of Halloween we've trawled the internet for the funniest photos of mans best friends dressed up in their Halloween best!

"Urgh is this mustard I asked specifically for ketchup!"

Is your pooch particularly fetching? (sorry) if the answer is yes then the "hot dog" is the perfect costume for the pup in your life!

"The force is telling you to give me that cheeseburger in your hand"
Darth Vader in the Star Wars films was an evil Death Star building killer which is why you should dress your adorable pug up like him because it'll stop him being bullied by the neighbourhood dogs. It's all about street cred...

"Ug MY BONE!"

Topperland can't even think of something witty to say about this comment because this is the perfect costume for a British Bulldog!

"Scar... Brother... Help Me!"
Lion King fan but can't get your cat to wear a costume for more than five seconds? Dress up your dog as Mufasa!

"Ain't nothin but a Hound Dog"
This has to be Topperland's favourite! We adore this cute costume and the wig is purely amazing!

So here are our favourite Halloween costumes for dogs but we want to see your so why not get in touch and let us see yours!

@Topperland

As always we look forward to hearing from you soon!

Halloween Activities

OooooooOOoooooh iiiiiit’sssss neaaaarly Hallloooooowwweeeeeeen! (OK I’ll stop now) Anyway as any parent knows the kids will expect activities other than plain old trick or treating. So here at Topperland we’ve put on our best fairy costume and we’re granting your wish for ideas!

1.       Make their costume and get them to help!
Spoonful has some amazing costumes from the elaborate to the last minute, we’re loving this amazing Autumn Fairy costume

2.       Get them in the kitchen
Make some basic plain cookies in Halloween style shapes then get the kids to decorate them with you.

3.       Pumpkin Carving
Sit down with your little one and help them carve a pumpkin – just make sure you’re careful and do all those tricky bits that require a knife!  Try this fantastic pumpkin carving kit from Amazon

4.       Halloween Colouring
Coloring ws is a great site for finding pictures for the kids to colour in. We’re especially loving this sweet Jack –O– Lantern picture for the kids to colour in:

5.       Face Painting
Are you particularly creative? Why not check out Parenting.com for some brilliant step by step guides on how to achieve some brilliant looks as we’re loving this tiger design!

Hopefully this has helped you with some ideas for what to do with the little ones this Halloween (other than let them gorge on sweeties). If you have any other ideas however please do not hesitate to let us and everyone else know all about it.

@Topperland

As always we look forwards to hearing from you!

Best and Worst of the Week

Good Morning Topperland fans and once again welcome to the best and the worst of the week as put together by Topperland!

Best

Topperland is loving awesome Halloween Make-Up creations like this awesome teeth make-up!

Our cake of the week this week comes from the lovely Anna Garcia. This Tinkerbell cake is purely stunning!

Our blog post celebrating the fact that real size women are breaking into the industry has us jumping for joy!

We adore this striking ballgown but as we’re not getting married anytime soon we need a reason to wear it! Points for whoever comes up with the most creative answer!

Our most favourite thing of this week though has to be the Hey Girl inspirational posters featuring (mostly) Ryan Gosling *Pant*

Worst

Nicole and Tulisa are really getting annoying now with their constant battles for media attention… You would have thought that it was nice of them to join forces. However it just looked tacky!

Our bad cake of the week is this worryingly lumpy boob cake…

Topperland has just read a ridiculous article on the craziest nanny state rules in scools… Including no hugging!

Well that about wraps up todays best and worst of the week! Let us know your contributions!

@Topperland

As always we look forward to hearing from you
